Add checkpoints to your chalkboard if you want to create a pause in the chalkboard to check student progress. You can add the following checkpoints to your chalkboard timeline:

  • Button Checkpoints – Add a button the student must click to continue viewing the chalkboard.
  • Password Checkpoints - Add a request for the student to enter their DigitalChalk account password to continue viewing the chalkboard.
  • True/False Checkpoints – Add a true false question the student must answer correctly to continue viewing the chalkboard.
  • Multiple Choice Checkpoint – Add a multiple choice question the student must answer correctly to continue viewing the chalkboard.
 

 To add checkpoints to the chalkboard timeline:

  • Click the Manage Courses tab, then click on the name of the course.
  • The Edit Course Window is displayed with a task list.
  • Click Manage Course Elements from the task list.

 


  • The Elements list for this course is displayed.
  • Click on the name of the chalkboard element.  The Edit Element Details window is displayed with a task list.
  • Click Edit Chalkboard from the list.

 

  • The chalkboard is displayed.
  • Click Manage Checkpoints at the top of the chalkboard editor.  The Checkpoints view for the chalkboard is displayed.
  • Click the “+” sign.


  • The Add Checkpoint page is displayed with a list of checkpoint types.


  • Click the checkpoint you want to add.

Add a Button checkpoint:
  • Click Add Button Checkpoint.
  • The Create Checkpoint window is displayed with the information for a Button checkpoint.
  • The fields with asterisks are the only required information.  Enter the text you want to display when the chalkboard pauses for the student response.  The other required and optional fields are filled in for you, but you can change them if you want.  You can also enter text you want to display after the student responds, or does not respond, to the Button checkpoint.
  • Click the Save button when you finish entering information for the Button checkpoint.


  • The Checkpoints view for the chalkboard is displayed with the detail for the checkpoint you created.

Add a Password checkpoint:
  • Click Add Password Checkpoint.
  • The Create Checkpoint window is displayed with the information for a Password checkpoint.
  • The fields with asterisks are the only required information.  Enter the text you want to display when the chalkboard pauses for the student response.  The other required and optional fields are filled in for you, but you can change them if you want.  You can also enter text you want to display if the student responds correctly, incorrectly or not in time, to the Password checkpoint.
  • Click the Save button when you finish entering information for the Password checkpoint.


  • The Checkpoints view for the chalkboard is displayed with the detail for the checkpoint you created.

Add a True/False checkpoint:
  • Click Add True/False Checkpoint.
  • The Create Checkpoint window is displayed with the information for a True/False checkpoint.
  • The fields with asterisks are the only required information.  Enter the text you want to display when the chalkboard pauses for the student response.  The other required and optional fields are filled in for you, but you can change them if you want.  You can also enter text you want to display if the student responds correctly, incorrectly, or not in time to the True/False checkpoint.
  • Click the Save button when you finish entering information for the True/False checkpoint.


  • The Checkpoints view for the chalkboard is displayed with the detail for the checkpoint you added. 

Add a Multiple Choice checkpoint:
  • Click Add Multiple Choice Checkpoint.
  • The Create Checkpoint window is displayed with the information for a Multiple Choice checkpoint.
  • The fields with asterisks are the only required information.  Enter the text you want to display when the chalkboard pauses for the student response.  The other required and optional fields are filled in for you, but you can change them if you want.  You can also enter text you want to display if the student responds correctly, incorrectly, or not in time to the Multiple Choice checkpoint.
  • Click the Save button when you finish entering information for the Multiple Choice checkpoint.


  • The Checkpoints view for the chalkboard is displayed with the detail for the checkpoint you added. 

Add a checkpoint to the chalkboard timeline:
  • Click Manage Checkpoints at the top of the chalkboard editor.  The Checkpoints view for the chalkboard is displayed.  A list of the checkpoints you added is displayed. 
  • Click the checkpoint you want to add to the timeline.  The detail for the checkpoint is displayed.

 


  • Enter the time at which  you want to place the slide on the timeline, and click the "+" sign.  


  • A diamond symbol is displayed on the timeline at the time you entered.  You can change the time placement of the checkpoint, add the checkpoint multiple times on the timeline, or delete the  checkpoint by clicking the appropriate Actions button.
